But the shapes of the belfry and Church of the Metropolitan See, turned into Patriarchy after 1918, remained the towering elements of the city's southern panoramas, where the spires of the Mihai Voda, Radu Voda, St Spiridon New Churches and of the Vacaresti Monastery were still visible above the vegetation of the popular districts.
To the north, the Coltei Boulevard ended by the Ienei Church, in front of the crossing with the Batistei and Regala Streets. Farther on, toward the Clementei Street (Now C.A.Rosetti) and the Romana Square, a far narrower street run between fences covered with ivy vines, and some of the parallel streets were more important at that time. Beyond the Romana Square a section of the Coltei Boulevard had been cut as early as 1894.
